Beaufort & Blake Recommends: Top 5 Winter Breaks

With your warm summer holiday already penned into the diary for next year, it’s time to plan the perfect winter getaway to break up your regular work routine. We’ve pulled together our top five destinations perfect for every gentleman to spend a winter weekend away.

1. St Moritz, Switzerland

For many gentlemen, a skiing holiday is more about hitting as many slopes (and bars) as possible rather than a relaxing couple of days away. However, if you’re looking to indulge yourself in sheer luxury then St Moritz is the perfect resort to escape to. We thoroughly recommend either Badrutt’s Palace or Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains for the perfect luxury weekend.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Where do we start explaining why you should visit Copenhagen? Arguably the coolest kid on the Nordic block, the Danish capital provides the perfect immersion into Scandinavian culture, design, fashion and culinary expertise. Copenhagen is, however, more than just seasoned cocktails and geometric threads – the royal capital with almost nine centuries under its belt is equally well versed when it comes to world-class museums and storybook streetscapes. We strongly recommend a visit to Noma, one of the 15 Michelin-starred restaurants in the town.

3. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow streets – Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful European cities to visit during the winter. We recommend you spend some time planning a visit to Amsterdam to ensure you’re able to spend time surveying some of Rebrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh’s finest work. Be prepared to hop on two wheels with cycling serving as the perfect way to get around the city.

4. Budapest, Hungary

Often dubbed ‘Paris of the East’ the Hungarian capital is one of Europe’s understated gems that boasts a beautiful blend of youthful vibrance and stunning architecture, all just a short flight away from the UK. Spend time walking along the banks of the River Danube which bisects the World Heritage site. Prepare to wrap up warm though!

5. Cheltenham, UK

A winter break doesn’t necessarily mean having to travel abroad as sometimes a relaxing break in the UK can be the perfect getaway. You may be thinking “why Cheltenham, it’s not the Gold Cup yet?” but once you’ve seen the rooms on offer from No 131, a new hotel from The Lucky Onion, you’ll immediately see why it’s made our list. Simply check in to your room, turn off your phone and indulge yourself in a weekend of eating, drinking and hours in front of a fire with the papers.
