Beaufort & Blake Recommends: Top 5 Christmas Tipples
Only at Christmas is it acceptable to crack open your favourite tipple as an accompaniment to breakfast and then ensure it’s been polished off by 1:00pm (at the latest). To make sure that your turkey is washed down with the finest drinks available, we’ve pulled together our top 5 Christmas tipples.
A liquer specifically formulated by Berry Bros. in 1903 for King Edward VII – this rich and zesty liquer will have you all fired up for those crisp festive mornings. Created by the careful maceration of ginger root and enlivened by the judicious addition of citrus in the form of lemon oil, this seductively golden tipple tops our Christmas list.
Chivas Regal 25 Year Old was the world’s first luxury whisky launched in 1909. The rare and exclusive blend of the finest Scotch whiskies, which have all been aged for a minimum of 25 years, is the perfect Christmas accompaniment. On the nose you will receive enticing fruit aromas of sweet orange and peach, followed by notes of marzipan. In terms of taste, expect hints of rich, mild, chocolate orange and a fondant creaminess. You’ll have to look carefully for the 25 as it’s only available as a strictly limited release in individually numbered bottles.
3. Lazzaroni Amaretto Liquer
It’s time to forget those all too familiar Amaretto di Saronno hangovers – all hail the mind-boggling good Lazzaroni. This sublime liquer is made using real Amaretti di Chiostro biscuits, which are broken down into small pieces and then soaked in alcohol. Simply imagine the delicious soft, almondy centres of those biscuits plus alcohol. We’re sold!
This understated gin is of a very rare breed – it’s good in both a G&T and in a martini. Made at the Bruichladdich distillery on the Herbridean whisky island of Islay, this gin strikes a perfect balance between subtle florality and juniper-piny power. Be sure to add this one to your shopping list.
Put this one under the tree and address it to yourself – it will be the best present you receive this year. Can anything beat the beautiful aroma of carefully baked apples combined with brandy? We recommend you have this over ice or simply with a drop of water or two.
We would like to advise that Beaufort & Blake cannot be held responsible for any ensuing hangovers. We do, however, welcome thank you letters for the above recommendations.
