Beaufort & Blake: 5 Resolutions You Must Keep in 2017

Let’s all agree to consign 2016 to the bin – a year marred by global conflict, dubious political outcomes and some famous faces gone too soon. As we look ahead to 2017, here are five resolutions to must keep to ensure that it’s the best year on record.

1. PUT THE PHONE DOWN (ESPECIALLY BEFORE BED)

This all starts with going back to a normal alarm. Nothing fancy, ideally something that looks like you grandparents would own. This will prevent you from having your phone in your bed all night and ultimately help you avoid looking at it as the first and last moment of every day. Now that the phone is away, set aside some time for reading every evening before bed. This does not mean picking up your iPad or Kindle, stick to paper.

2. TICK IT OFF YOUR TO-DO LIST

Whilst this is an old one, many of us often get distracted by the more glossy resolutions that you publically proclaimed during new year’s celebrations. We would recommend drawing up a to-do list and then ranking it in order of importance. Work through the list sticking to the principle that you’re not allowed to move onto the next point until the previous has been completed. Word of warning - be sure to make your list realistic as ‘become a millionaire’ will take you more than a year! Why don’t you start with ‘get smart shoes resoled’?

3. STOP GIVING PRET ALL YOUR MONEY

It’s time to own up – have you been spending just short of a tenner every day on lunch? Whilst this might seem like an insignificant amount on the day, think about what you’re spending annually on lunch (probably about the same you would spend on a pretty decent holiday). 2017 is the year of the tupperware tyrant – to avoid relapsing following the classic excuse ‘I forgot to make lunch’, simply cook an extra portion of your supper and add to suitable salad ingredients. Your waistline might even benefit too!

4. SAVE 1P EXTRA EVERY DAY

“Pah, save 1p a day?” - I hear you say? Well, in fact this is a challenge for even the highest of earners. We all know that saving money is one the most boring inevitabilities of adulthood but this principle will prove fruitful come 2018. This challenge means putting aside a penny more everyday day so - 1p on day 1, 2p on day 2 etc. You got it? Fast forward 365 days and you will have saved £667.95. That’s a new suit, that’s the deposit for your next skiing holiday that’s a whole heap of date nights paid for!

5. GET BLACK TIE RIGHT

This year’s going to be your most successful yet, right? If so, be prepared to receive even more invites for parties and the odd awards do. With this is mind; it’s time you locked down you black tie look (here’s some help if you really need it).
