Edward, it’s an absolute pleasure to be here at Floris London and to experience your bespoke service.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
Creating new fragrances and working with our perfumery team as well as smelling new raw materials.

How does it feel to create in the same room your family has worked in for generations?
It's a real honour to create fragrances in this same room where my ancestors have created fragrances for nearly 300 years now and to add to their repertoire of fragrances.

Talk us through how you balance heritage with creativity?
We're really proud of our heritage, and it's incredible to have, but at the same time, we're always working with new ingredients, and the fragrances that we create in modern times, we're sort of influenced by things that are happening in the world around us.

What’s your earliest scent memory?
My earliest scent memory was being pushed in my pushchair and the smell of the wood, especially after it rained. If I smell something like that then it takes me back to that moment.

Do you have a favourite spot in London that always sparks your creativity?
St James's, because I've spent a lot of time here. There's exhibitions at Christie's and concerts at the church opposite that spark creativity.

What top tip do you have for finding your signature scent?
Go with your instincts. If there's a fragrance that you connect with, try it on your skin, and then just live with it for an hour or so. You'll quite quickly know if it's for you.

What synergy is there between scent and style?
Your scent is part of your wardrobe and part of how you're feeling on a certain day.
